The Cottage Wellesley

It had been a long time since I’ve eaten here and my family and I were definitely underwhelmed. Before I get into the quality of the food, I need to address the number of fruit flies and bugs near our table by the second window. I counted AT LEAST 6 fruit flies and a couple of normal flies, not to mention a hornet (which I helped get rid of). They were plaguing our meal the whole time and I had no idea where they were even coming from. Extremely disappointing to see a restaurant allow that sort of thing. I definitely would not go back for that reason alone, but I also want to talk about the food. None of the food was that great: the steak frites could have used more seasoning, the fish and chips weren’t crispy, and the halibut had little to no taste. I enjoyed my Harvest Moon drink, and the appetizers (salad and melon with prosciutto) were fine, but I was definitely expecting a lot more ESPECIALLY considering both the price and how long it took to get our meal. For food, they usually say you can have 2 out of 3 of the following: quality, price, speed. We had none.

"?????" Is the biggest description of my meal here. I called at 5:45 to make a reservation. It was confirmed. I showed up for my 7:15 reservation and they said I needed to wait for my table so I was put at the bar. (No big deal but weird start) I then ordered my food. My appetizer just did not come. I was then given an decent pasta dish at best. Then I was told my appetizer is done and will be out. Then when I asked about the appetizer I was told it was taken off the menu? Why wasn't that stated when I ordered it. Then they told me they can check and see if it is ready. ???? Then it came and it wasn't great! It was just a confusing experience. I just was constantly wondering what was going on. Cool environment though.
